Pastor's Blog

 Thursday, November 10, 2005
To me, blogs have always seemed to be an exercise in arrogance. You need to really believe that someone cares what you think to start a blog. But as a pastor, I get up and preach every Sunday assuming people want to hear what I have to say, so it's not a great leap from there to blogging. So I guess I'm arrogant...or something.

I've never been much of a writer, and I've never kept a journal of any kind. I do, however, see the value of such a thing. So even if no one reads this blog, at least it will be a record of what's on my mind...which is a scary thought at this point. If any entry is actually helpful to someone else, then "praise the Lord and pass the ammunition."

So, hang on tight...you never know what might be on my mind.

Welcome to the blogosphere anyhow! You'll be tossing around secret-sauce terms like blogosphere, blognoscenti, bloggerati, blog-meme, and blogworthy before you know it. But, then, you'll want to put a water-pistol to your head. Don't. Pull. The. Trigger.

Blogging, for me, has become a way to think and formulate a position. There's a devotional aspect to it, and there's an authorial, writerly, "communication thing" going on, to be sure, but my blog becomes at once my brain, my soap-box, my journal, and my muse. The act of musing aloud, itself, has taken me to places intellectually I find interesting and useful, and I've only been blogging since June/July of this year.

So, what do I know?

Dont get addicted to stats. They don't matter. Blog as though you were called to it. Your content will live on. If you have five readers today, don't worry about it. Over the years, those five will have multiplied into thousands--even if they never come all in one month. Paul's audiences were small--in his lifetime. You can never predict who will read, and who will benefit.

Regards,

Rich
