This seems to be a case of the peculiar American penchant for not believing anything until Scientists have conducted Research and have published their Findings in a Study. How many times do scientific studies simply confirm what sensible people always knew all along?

It also seems to be a case of American Parental Guilt. Ever since Dr. Spock convinced a generation of Americans that any limits, discipline, or responsibilities placed on children would harm them irreperably, we've been afraid to tell them "No." Advertisers are happy to offer the little darlings plenty of things that no sane parent would want their children to have, and appealing to the lowest common denominator has always been profitable.

You're right about the cultural and spiritual ramifications. Children are reaching adulthood with a twisted view of sexuality and morality which they see as "normal." How do people find forgiveness and live in the truth when they see nothing wrong or false about where they're at? It will truly take a miracle of God to undo the damage we're doing.
